Following the overwhelming number of entries in last years Primary Schools Upcycling Competition, it was decided to split the competition into three discrete categories to encourage all age groups to participate in this year’s event and importantly engage with the theme of resource reuse and the circular economy.

This new structure has proven to be a great success as the submissions across each of the categories have surpassed the expectations of the judges.  “The ingenuity, imagination and inventiveness of this year’s projects really emphasised that these pupils have fully grasped the core message of what it means to recycle and upcycle” said Dr John MacNamara from the judging panel.

Another judge, Stephenie Born stated that the “Energy and enthusiasm, as well as some wonderful artistic flair was also very evident in the entries making the process of choosing  winners very difficult’.

Bord na Móna Recycling are delighted with the growth in the nationwide appeal of the competition, the quality of the entries and the positive learning outcomes experienced by the pupils.
