As a company deeply committed to sustainability and responsible waste management, Bord na Móna Recycling was delighted to serve as the official waste management partner for this year’s 49th annual Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival, which kicked off on Sunday, August 11th, 2024. We were honored to play a role in preserving the beauty of Moynalty and its surroundings while ensuring that the festival remained a clean and green event for all attendees. This festival offered a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience traditional crafts and vintage displays.

A Day of Heritage and Sustainability

The Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival was a celebration of Ireland’s rich agricultural and industrial heritage, with displays of vanishing work practices such as horse and steam power, reaping, binding, threshing, and flailing. Visitors also witnessed traditional crafts like basket weaving, steel forging, wood turning, and harness making—skills that have been passed down through generations.

This year’s festival featured a special re-enactment of vintage road making, a crowd-pleasing demonstration that showcased how roads were constructed over 100 years ago. With participants from Ireland and Northern England, this display was bigger and better than ever.

Waste Management for a Cleaner Future

At Bord na Móna Recycling, we understand the importance of managing waste efficiently, especially at large-scale events like the Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival. Our team was on-site throughout the day to ensure that waste was properly sorted, recycled, and disposed of, minimising the environmental impact of the event. We provided clearly marked bins for general waste, recyclables, and compostables, helping attendees to make environmentally conscious choices.

By working closely with the festival organizers, we aimed to make this year’s event as sustainable as possible, reducing waste and promoting recycling at every opportunity. We encouraged all visitors to do their part by using the appropriate bins and considering the environment in their actions throughout the day.

Thank you to all who joined us at the 49th Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival—where tradition met sustainability!
