Each year the Irish Cancer Society organises the Relay for Life which is the biggest cancer fundraising initiative across the world. A number of teams took part in this amazing event last weekend at the Curragh Racecourse where for 24 hours a team member walked the track. One of which teams was Amy’s Angels, led by Katie Mahon, Customer Service Supervisor here at Bord na Móna Recycling. Bord na Móna Recycling are proud to have sponsored jumpers for Amy’s Angels and provided waste management services at the event.

This event has three aims, one to celebrate cancer survivors, another to remember all those we have lost to cancer and lastly to fight back against cancer by building our knowledge and raising money to fund life saving cancer research. Throughout the event there were special laps and ceremonies to support different groups of people. There was a survivors lap where all participants taking part wore a purple jumper to honour those who have survived their fight against cancer. The Carers lap celebrated and thanked all the family members and carers that are helping people through cancer everyday. At dusk the Candle of Hope Ceremony took place where participants gave a small donation in exchange for a paper bag and candle upon which they wrote supportive messages to loved ones taken by cancer or those still fighting it. Bord na Móna Recycling are honoured to have played even a small role in this touching event.
